Yes, this is my first bird which force me to become bird watcher. Bird Watching was not planned and very unexpected. Mamatha was preganant and we had decided to do delivery in Kolhapur. We choose Kolhapur because of pure air and New palace is very near from my house, so Mamatha can enjoy walking and spending time in that place.
It was January month. Environment was very pleasant. This is time when lot of migrated birds visit Kolhapur. There are many lakes in side by areas and within city. Birds visits frequently due to river area and all time farming.
On first day itself we observed number of birds enjoying morning time at New palace lake. I was describing the place to Mamatha. Next day, we observed the more colorful birds, surprised to notice there are so many birds staying on single tree. My father is retired forest officer. I talked with him about the birds. He handed over 20 year old book to me. No prize for guessing, it was Salim Ali's book. I got interest in identifying birds and watching their habbits. We started carrying camera with us every morning. This is how I got interest.
This bird came near to wall. We were pleased since it was very good start of photographic event. After identifying the bird, we were more surprised because we started with one of the migrated bird. It is Painted Stork. These birds make crowded nest on single tree. This is one of the tall stork. It is very beautiful.
Photograph describes the beauty of painted stork. In one of the photograph, famous New Palace lake is visible. This year(2009) the tree is captured by painted stork.
